Poseidon Divers News

March 2008

The year has started well indeed with our first Military Group having been through, and April looking busier than we have seen in many a year.

We have a new speedboat in the water which is fabulous and that is hauling waterskiers and wakeboarders each day at Le Meridien.

February saw a bumper IDC with, yet again, everyone passing with very high scores - we have also just launched our Career Packages so take a look at the Special Offers page to see the download and you could change that lifestyle for good !

The weather is warming nicely now and the aircon is gettign a switch on every now and then - it is the perfect temperature to be here - not too hot or cold and we can be pretty sure it is only going one way from now on !

January 2008

Happy New Year to one and all - we hope that we will see a lot of you from the old year again this year, and for those that havent yet been, we look forward to meeting you

Well the first thing we have to say is - take a look at special offers !!!! If you are free in the next 6 weeks you can get a fairly good deal to say the least !

Olivia, our dive boat has just come back from overhaul and is looking superb - she has a way way more powerful 200HP engine on her, and she has new awnings, deck rails, lighting, and control panels - she also sports a new sofa seat at the back !

We have just struck up a new partnership with Violet Ultra Travel to allow us to work together, and a combination of their expertise and our track record in the Military marketplace will make us a significant entity in military diving and expeditions

Ed came back and is now an RYA Powerboat Instructor, and is waffling on about sails - he is threatening to buy a dinghy and to become a sailor !

We are updating all pages on this site at the moment and you can see from the staff pages all the new faces on board. Keep an eye on the News and the Special Offers pages for sure

Another IDC happened in December and again Poseidon had a 100% pass rate. Well done everyone !

Oct – Dec 2007

For those of you that have been with us and enjoyed it, heres your chance to vote for us in some awards as your best dive centre.

Well the great news is that we have opened in the Meridien hotel in Dahab. The first truly 5 Star Deluxe hotel in Dahab has a 5 star dive centre as well. It has been a bust period with all hands working very hard and some minor melting, but we are up and running. Our boat is moored at the hotel, and we have our watersports outlet functioning as well - its pretty exciting and it is definately the best view in Dahab.

Ed is off in Dec to take his Powerboat Instructor licence in sunny North Wales so we hope next year we can be an RYA facility as well !

Some very big news which may disappoint a number of you. We took a calm and careful business decision to stop technical diving at the centres. We felt there are still too many unknowns and that we didnt want to have such a high risk within the business. It is something Ed started 6 years ago within the centre and in some ways we are sad, but for us we are suddenly huge recreational diving fans

Yet more Instructors with the latest IDC and Steph loved the course so much he joined the company afterwards !

We are looking forward in this period to some old friends appearing, and I think for about 3 days towards the end of the month we have 80 of them in the house. No restaurant or bar will be safe we suspect

Jul – Sept 2007

Thex first thing we have to say is - check the special offers page for a fantastic deal on the IDC in September, and amazing August, February and March offers

This quarter has been as manic as the previous. We are now opening in the Meridien in October, which has us buying equipment, including a new watersports speedboat at a furious pace. We are going to have a combination of waterskiing, wakeboarding, kayaks, snorkelling, as well as diving, and following on behind is dinghy sailing and hobbey cats.

We also say farewell to our longest serving staff member - Farmer. He has been with us 4 years and has left to see what the UK has to hold for him. He will be missed, but we have a great team in place which is about to grow.

Bart, who is now a Trimix Instructor has taken over the management of diving for Poseidon at both centres, whilst Hans is taking over office and admin needs for the multi centre enterprise. It is superb for us as Bart brings hotel and resort experience to the post as well as more energy than most of town put together

We had another IDC in June, and again we had a 100% success rate, and a Poseidon first - our first Icelandic Instructor !! Well done Gudmundur.

You can now book diving at either of our Dahab centres through a number of European Tour Operators as well as direct, so watch this space for the breaking news on this !

Apr – Jun 2007

This quarter has seen frantic activity to prepare for the opening of Le Meridien and our brand new diving and watersports centre going in there. We have all sorts of weird and wonderful items available for people to play with from rubber torpedoes to pogo sticks that carry you across the water ! Take a look at our special offers page to see the opening offer - it really is unbeatable for a week of 5 Star luxury !

This quarter also saw the launch of Poseidon Active, the holding company of our 3 centres, which makes us feel very grown up. Poseidon Active has a few other ventures around the corner so watch this space.

Ed

Jan – Mar 2007

Ed for the second year running has retained his Platinum Course Director status, only rivalled by the renewal of Poseidon as a PADI Vocational Centre – 2 rare awards and 2 years in a row!

Bart Bellemans joined our team this year as an Extended Range Instructor, and stormed onto the scene. February has seen Bart taking 12 courses from Advanced Nitrox to Extended Range, so he is a very welcome addition to our team

Oct – Dec 2006

If you are reading this then you are looking at our brand new website

The Poseidon Team headed to the UK in October to man the stand at the Birmingham dive show. For us the great thing is seeing old customers again so thanks to all who came over to see us, especially those wearing our shirts!

Poseidon has a new boat. After months of work Poseidon possesses one of the few boats in Dahab, and we plan to use it as much as we can. All those undived and inaccessible bays are now on the map.

In a matter of months we will be opening the doors on Poseidon Divers @ Le Meridien. Our new hotel will cater for families with a fantastic kids club, and we have some great dive packages tailor made for just kids, so click on the link and see what we have to offer – you will love it!

July - Sept 2006

National GeographicWe are now not only a PADI Career Development Centre, not only a PADI Vocational Centre, not only a TDI and DSAT Technical Instructor Centre BUT ............... we are now a PADI National Geographic Centre !! We are exceptionally proud of this final rating as there is now no higher we can go! We were the first CDC Centre in Dahab, and now we are the first centre to achieve National Geographic and CDC combined. We are just planning our exped to climb to the top of Everest as that has got to be easy in comparison to achieving CDCthese ratings!!! Come and see us and if you are learning to dive, expand your horizons, and instead of the entry level Open Water course, embrace the shiny new PADI National Geographic Diver rating as your entry in our world - how cool does that sound

Well the big news is that Poseidon has gone into partnership with the leading provider of PADI training worldwide and is now also Pro Dive Dahab. Most people are aware of Pro Dive which started in Australia and is now moving worldwide, and Poseidon is to be one of 5 Pro Dive Training Academies Worldwide. We will be offering the well known Pro Dive Resort Management course to ensure any Professional leaving us with this course has met a stringent syllabus which will qualify them to work with confidence in the diving industry. This is great news for us and even better for our customers.

April - June 2006

Mr PoseidonTake a look at www.thomsonfly.com or www.xl.com and see the flight prices currently. The price to come in a few weeks is only £106 return from London to Sharm el Sheikh! To come diving for a week, stay in a hotel and be transferred from the airport is going to cost you £180 so you have the potential to get a full holiday at the moment from £286!!!!!!!!!!!!! We will even give you a discount if you bring more than 6 people....

We would like to put a huge Thank You to all the past and future customers who contacted us following the recent Dahab bombings. All the messages of concern and support were very very welcome and reminded us all we are not far from home. The bombings have made everyone in this town determined to not allow them to win, and the town is almost business as usual. Poseidon was fairly close to all the blasts and the staff had a role to play fairly quickly as did a large number of other dive professionals. We are all fine and are accepting of the fact that this is the world today. We look forward to seeing you all, and are very moved by the clear determination of people to carry on coming

The Centre achieved a new status recently - that of PADI Vocational Centre, which means we have a lot of those workplace standards so familiar in Europe. This award took some earning, and we are the only ones in Egypt to possess it!

An IDC and IE took place again in April and yet again a 100% success for the guys concerned - well done to all, especially as the terrorist attacks happened midway through

The REALLY BIG news is that Poseidon 2 will soon be opening in the new luxurious Le Meridien Dahab later this year. We are very excited about this venture and are getting ready for it right now

Our new ENORMOUS compressor came on line recently as well which means we now deliver over 1000 lpm out of the blending station, including continuous flow Nitrox.

January - March 2006

The Big News this month is that our Course Director Ed Poore has been awarded the Platinum Level Status in the new PADI Frequent Trainer Program. This Program grades Course Directors on the level of training they are doing and looks at courses taught beyond Instructor as well as volumes. Less than 90 Course Directors in the World have this level, and it is why, combined with Poseidon’s Career Development Centre Status, there is no other choice. If you want to succeed then don’t take risks!

We had another IDC in February, and yet again had a 100% Pass Rate, and on this occasion being on of the few centres to achieve this. It was also our first IDC which was exclusively Military with everyone with us on resettlement.
