Restaurants and Bars

There are many restaurants lining the bay offering inexpensive meals, such as pizza, pasta, Indian curry, Chinese food, sandwiches or Egyptian foul and falafel. Bottled water is cheap and readily available everywhere. Alcohol is sold in all the large hotels and some restaurants with the imports being significantly more expensive then the local Egyptian brands.

Here are a few of the favourite restaurants of the staff at Poseidon, these are only personal recommendations and not endorsements, there are many equally good restaurants not listed and new establishments are opening frequently.

Waiter

Blue Beach
This very popular and lively bar is situated at the Blue Beach Hotel at the Northern end of the bay between Lighthouse and Eel Garden. Run by Chris an Australian with a distinctive haircut and a dress sense that can only be matched his taste in music, Blue Beach is usually where you will find the Instructors and Divemasters relaxing at the end of a very hard day!! Always busy when there is a sporting event showing on a regular basis, such as rugby or football. Films are also show during the day, if you fancy really chilling out on one of the very comfortable couches with your head resting on a zebra striped furry cushion!! The conservatory is a lovely place to sit and relax in the gentle cooling breeze blowing in off the gulf of Ababa, whilst eating food chosen from their bar menu – the steaks here are highly recommended!

Tota

Tota
Situated on the sea front, 2 doors down from the dive centre, you will recognise Tota bar instantly as it is built to resemble a sailing galleon complete with mast and rigging. One of the original and oldest establishments in town - check out the pictures of the way Dahab used to look in days past. It is one of the few bars in Dahab with tons of seating indoors, out on the beach, on the upper deck and out the back in the garden, where there is also a fire to sit around in the winter where you can relax on cushions enjoying a cold beer, and in summer there is no better place to be than on the upper deck watching the sunset.

Stone Ginger

Stone Ginger
This popular restaurant is also located at the Blue Beach Hotel and makes a lovely setting for a special night for two or a sociable meal for a group of friends; they will also cater for large groups if you book ahead. The interior has been tastefully decorated and the large windows allow for you to take full advantage of the view. The air-conditioned restaurant gives a nice respite in the summer months. There is a good variety of well cooked European and Egyptian dishes on the menu - again the steaks are to be recommended. This restaurant is licensed.

Stone Ginger

El Dorado Italian restaurant.
El Dorado is situated at the Northern end of the bay at Eel garden. Owned and run by a very friendly Italian family the food here cannot be beaten. The menu is compiled of some on the best homemade pastas and pizzas outside of mainland Europe. The setting is unique, positioned in the courtyard of Eldorado Camp the gaudiesque open sided building adds to the whole al fresco dining experience. Situated on the beach front the cooling breeze is a relief in the summer months but a jumper is recommended when dining there between November and March. The service is friendly and attentive and this place is especially popular with locals and can get very busy at times, however the service is quick and you never have to wait too long for a table. Big groups are recommended to book ahead.

Sharks

Sharks
Can be found at the North end of the bay. This unusual restaurant is without tables and chairs and the seating is on floor cushions. The upstairs open air area has a lovely view of the bay. The menu is extensive and the fresh fish specials are worth asking about, and be sure to try the THICK SHAKES - they are to die for! Make sure you order the small portioned meal or you might find yourself eating for two as the portions are large. The unique thing about Sharks is the fact that no bill is produced at the end of the meal they relay on your honesty when paying at the till. This restaurant does not sell alcohol.

Carm Inn
Situated in the north end of the bay Carm Inn is unique in its own way for both its style of decoration and its menu. The menu boasts are real mix of Asian and Middle Eastern food. The restaurant gets busy and it is recommended you go early. The service whilst good is slow and expect to spend an enjoyable evening here. They do not sell alcohol.

Jays
Right next door to The Shark Club, a popular restaurant, so make sure you make reservations early the food sells out quick. The meals are prepared each night on a set menu that is displayed outside the entrance to the restaurant from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., make reservations starting around 3:00 p.m. They do not sell alcohol.

Fish Restaurant

Lakhbatita (Three fish) Restaurant
Positioned on the beach at the southern end of the bay area, this restaurant is owned and run by an Italian woman who has styled this restaurant to be something quite different, even for Dahab. The indoor restaurant boasts and eclectic mix of objects hanging form the roof and the beach dining area is large and affords the benefit of the sea breezes in summer. The salad bar as a starter is recommended. The menu is large and extensive and it can be guaranteed that there is something for everyone. This restaurant does not serve alcohol.
